Welcome to Project Yoga

Project Yoga is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings yoga, mindfulness, meditation, and breathing exercises to people in the Greater Cincinnati region who have never been exposed to these practices, allowing them to experience the emotional and physical well-being that can result. Our classes empower people in the Greater Cincinnati Region with life-changing coping skills that cultivate peace and resiliency to build healthy, safe, and thriving communities.

Project Yoga’s Approach to Trauma-Informed Yoga

We recognize that trauma is pervasive and can profoundly impact individuals' physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, particularly in underserved communities and among youth. This is why we are dedicated to offering trauma-informed care through yoga practices that are not only accessible but also tailored to support a whole-person approach to mental health, physical wellness, social-emotional well-being, and resiliency. Project Yoga instructors and assistants are trained in understanding trauma and its impact and guide students without judgment to authentically create a learning environment that is sensitive to trauma and socio-cultural differences and supports healing.

What is trauma-informed yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach to yoga instruction that considers the effect of trauma on individuals' physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
It emphasizes creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for students who have experienced trauma, acknowledging that traditional yoga practices may not always be suitable or beneficial for them.

Yoga postures are challenging, even the simplest ones build strength, flexibility, and resiliency from the inside out.

Our certified yoga teachers teach breathing techniques, showing how the act of breathing mirrors how we feel. We teach how to be patient and gentle with ourselves and how to practice the skill of mindfulness. How to respond rather than react to difficult emotions, pain and stress.
To us, learning how to stand on one foot isn’t as important as learning how to fall and get back up.

I support Project Yoga because I believe in the transformative power yoga can have on one’s physical body, mind and ultimately one’s soul. Teaching others the process of fully inhabiting themselves and life leads to a simple presence. Being present, open, relaxed and aware serves as the foundation for compassion and wisdom to emerge from within us.

Yoga meets you where you are. Every time. Good days and tough days. It is perhaps the most forgiving and welcoming form of physical and mental activity. I support Project Yoga because I know that bringing this practice to children, adults and seniors is giving them a moment of peace. It is both calming and energizing. It gives people time and space and permission to quiet the mind and move the body. It builds strength of both mind and body.  That is the power of Project Yoga.
